COLOR: Heartwood is creamy white to light reddish brown; sapwood is pale to creamy white; occasional mineral streaking.
GRAIN: Close grain, with medium figuring and uniform texture, occasional quilted, fiddle back, curly or bird's eye figures. Interesting, general character and marking.
VARIATION: Moderate variation between boards.
DURABILITY: Dense, strong, tough, and stiff. 12% harder than Northern Red Oak. Janka rating = 1450. Dimensional change coefficient = .00353
