COLOR: This unsteamed wood displays the rich light to dark reddish brown heartwood contrasted with the pale and light pink to light brown tones. Character grain and pitch pockets add to the charm.

GRAIN: Fine, frequently wavy, uniform texture. Character grain and pitch pockets add to the charm. 

VARIATION: Considerable variation between boards.

DURABILITY: Strong , but 26% softer than Northern red oak, above average stability. Janka rating = 950. Dimensional change coefficient = .00248
