Antique Heart Pine
COLOR: Heartwood is yellow after cutting, rapidly turning tan to warm reddish brown due to the high resin content. The sapwood remains yellow marked by occasional blue-black sap stain.
GRAIN: The high figured grain is dense; plain sawn boards are swirled; rift and quartersawn boards pinstriped.
VARIATION: Moderate
DURABILITY: Only 5% softer than Northern red oak, this wood is considerably more stable (29% more stable than red oak.) Janka rating = 1225. Dimensional change coefficient = .00263
